You are part of a unique singing community! We have yet to discover any other song circles that are led by a rotating group of song leaders, who along with your WCSC board, are dedicated to building community through singing together.
Here’s an invitation for you – or someone you know – to join our board, a group of wonderful humans who start and end each meeting with a song! As their terms are coming to a close, some of our officers are stepping down from their roles. Although we would love to have folks already familiar with our mission, these positions do not need to be filled by people currently attending song circles. So if you know anyone that may fit the role and could be interested in contributing their skills to help our nonprofit lead and grow with love, please spread the word! We are hoping to have these positions filled before the end of March to begin training. Note: these positions have a minimum two-year commitment and a maximum four-year commitment. Check out the descriptions below:
Secretary – aka “Organizer, note‑ninja, and keeper of all things official.” Approx. time commitment: 6-10 hours/month
The secretary is responsible for taking detailed, easy-to-read minutes of all formal monthly board meetings. The secretary types, organizes and distributes the minutes to all board members as record of board decisions. They are also responsible for archiving minutes, bylaws, and board rosters which are required for our nonprofit’s organization and accountability.
Treasurer – aka “Number whisperer and budget balancer. The board’s financial GPS—helping us know where we are and where we’re headed.” Approx. time commitment:
6-10 hours/month
The treasurer is responsible for organizing financial data into reports to present to the board, ensuring compliance with IRS and state laws and regulations, and completing mandatory financial reporting forms and taxes. They also deposit cash weekly (income from song circles and special events) and pay a minimal amount of bills.
Communications Director – aka” Story-sharer/messenger sending joyful noise across all the platforms.” Approx. time commitment: 8 - 15 hours/month
The communication director produces brief emails to our community 2x/month. They manage occasional email queries and requests to join our email list. They also help with messaging for community events and board decisions, ensuring that communications are aligned with our mission. The communications director oversees the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and digital collateral, including emails, occasional fliers, and the website.
Please email wholeheartedsinging@gmail.com with any questions or to express interest in one of the positions. If you are interested in a position, please send a brief bio, a description of your skill set, why you are interested in the role and why you think you are a good fit.
(We want to get to know you better. This is not a time to be humble! ) Or, please forward this email if you know someone who might be a good fit.

Wholehearted Community Song Circles offer drop-in group singing opportunities in Big Sur and Carmel, CA. Our circles are open to everyone and do not require a long-term commitment or previous singing experience. These offerings are led by graduates of Lisa Littlebird’s Song Leader Flight School, with the intention to create community through singing together. We are a community-led and community-supported nonprofit organization.
All songs are learned by heart, in the ancient oral tradition without sheet music. Occasionally, we invite guest song leaders to come and lead special ticketed events in our area.
All contributions are welcome to help cover costs including but not limited to venue rentals and special guest song leader events. Though not required, we suggest $15. And if your budget is feeling stretched, please know that you are welcome no matter what.

We (WCSC) are a community-organized, community-led, and community-supported group dedicated to singing in a safe, inclusive, diverse and equitable space. All voices are welcome without audition. We learn songs through listening and delight in the harmonies we create together.
We strive for unity and compassion in our shared time. With consideration for others, please take care of your own needs whenever possible. If there is something we would benefit from knowing, or a request of the group, feel free to include it in the announcement portion of the evening or to speak privately with one of the WCSC Council members.
Here are some examples of considerations each of us can make while keeping the group dynamic in mind:

Cynthia Fernandes, President
King Grossman, Treasurer
Karen Lehman
Michael Eagle Song
Kendra Morgenrath, Song Leaders
Carla Zilliox, Communications
